As the No. 1 selling estate agent in East Central Scotland, we know a thing or two about the importance of kerb appeal when it comes to selling a home. So, when an opportunity arose to give the outside of our own Corstorphine Property Centre a little extra flower power, we were delighted to get involved.
Neilsons is proud to support Corstorphine in Bloom, a community-led initiative bringing together residents, local businesses and community groups to help make Corstorphine greener, brighter and more welcoming.
And we’re particularly pleased to be leading the way as the first local business to have new planters installed as part of the initiative.
Two large planters are now taking pride of place outside our Property Centre on St John’s Road, beautifully planted by Corstorphine in Bloom volunteers. They are already adding a welcome splash of colour to our shopfront, proof perhaps, that good kerb appeal isn’t just for homes!
Helping Corstorphine flourish
Corstorphine is home to Neilsons’ Head Office and Property Centre, so this is a community we know extremely well and are proud to be part of.
Corstorphine in Bloom has been established to improve local streets, shopping areas, parks and public spaces through planting and other practical community projects. The initiative is already gathering momentum, with planters appearing around the area, local businesses offering their support and volunteers giving their time to watering, weeding, tidying and seasonal planting.
The group’s wider vision is to create a network of greener spaces connecting five local parks and eleven shopping areas, encouraging people to explore Corstorphine on foot while supporting biodiversity and strengthening connections between residents, businesses and community organisations.
There are plenty of ways for people to dig in and help, too. Volunteers don’t need to be experienced gardeners or make a major time commitment: even a few minutes spent watering or weeding a planter can contribute to keeping the neighbourhood looking its best.
An idea with plenty of room to grow
There are some exciting longer-term ideas taking root as well.
Corstorphine in Bloom is in discussions with Edinburgh Zoo about a possible animal-themed nature trail, connecting planting with information about native species and conservation. The proposals are still being developed, but could eventually create another reason for residents, families, schools and visitors to explore the neighbourhood and its green spaces.
Neilsons is delighted to be among the first local businesses to put down some roots. We hope our new planters will be the first of many colourful additions to Corstorphine’s shopping streets, and that more businesses, residents and organisations will be inspired to get involved.
We’re looking forward to watching both our planters and Corstorphine in Bloom flourish in the months and years ahead.
