Team Neilsons Goes the Distance at the Edinburgh Kiltwalk for Four Square

By Neilsons Team

On Sunday, 19 members of Team Neilsons pulled on their walking shoes to take on the Edinburgh Kiltwalk, raising nearly £2,000 for our charity partner, Four Square.

With Neilsons teams taking part across all three Kiltwalk distances, it was a fantastic effort from everyone involved. Between them, our walkers covered an incredible 199.4 miles across Edinburgh and the surrounding area. Plenty of steps, a few tired legs and, most importantly, a brilliant amount raised for a cause that means a great deal to us.

Going the extra mile for Four Square

Earlier this year, Neilsons began our charity partnership with Four Square, an Edinburgh-based charity supporting people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. For us, it is a partnership with a particularly meaningful connection.

As Solicitors and Estate Agents, homes are at the heart of what we do every day. Our teams help people across Edinburgh and the Lothians buy and sell homes, guiding them through some of the biggest moves and milestones in their lives. But we also recognise that having somewhere safe and secure to call home cannot be taken for granted.

Four Square works with people experiencing homelessness and housing insecurity in Edinburgh, providing practical support and helping people move towards greater stability and independence. Supporting that work feels like a natural and important extension of our role within the communities we serve.

Our partnership is about finding practical ways to make a difference. Alongside fundraising events like the Kiltwalk, Neilsons clients moving home are also encouraged to donate unwanted furniture and household items through Four Square’s Edinburgh Furniture Initiative, giving useful items a new life while supporting people experiencing or at risk of homelessness.

19 walkers. Three distances. 199.4 miles.

Sunday’s Kiltwalk was a great example of the Neilsons team getting behind that partnership, and Edinburgh certainly put on a memorable day for us. With colleagues tackling each of the three distances, everyone had their own challenge ahead. Each event got underway to the sound of pipers at the start line, while those taking on the 21-mile Mighty Stride had an extra-special send-off, with Sir Chris Hoy starting the event.

Once out on the route, there was no shortage of encouragement to keep tired legs moving. The fantastic support from spectators, volunteers and some unexpected characters along the way including Batman and even a flamingo, which gave us plenty of reasons to smile and helped keep spirits high as the miles clocked up. The Kiltwalk organisers also did a wonderful job looking after everyone taking part, with water and snack stations providing very welcome pitstops throughout the day.

And through it all, our 19 walkers were united by the same goal: raising as much as possible for Four Square. Collectively, Team Neilsons clocked up an impressive 199.4 miles and, thanks to the generosity of colleagues, clients, friends and family, we have already raised nearly £2,000. A huge well done to every member of the team who took part, and an equally huge thank you to everyone who has sponsored us so far. Every donation helps Four Square continue its important work supporting people affected by homelessness here in Edinburgh.

There’s still time to donate!

The walking might be finished and the feet might be recovering, but our JustGiving page is still open! We’re aiming to raise £10,000 for Four Square this year.

If you haven’t donated yet and would like to support Team Neilsons and Four Square, there is still time to contribute. Whether it’s £5, £10 or a little more, every donation helps support an Edinburgh charity working to ensure more people have the opportunity to find stability, security and somewhere to call home.

Please visit our JustGiving page to donate and help us push our fundraising total even higher.
